Our Orchard Supply Hardware work was fast-paced and intense—more than 70 stores in three years. We worked on a mix of new buildings, major remodels, and small garden center remodels. The major remodels were complex projects. Some involved raising the roof and adding a mezzanine to existing buildings to hold more square footage in a smaller store footprint, adapting about 35,000 square feet to a 25,000 square-foot footprint. If we couldn't meet fixture counts on the ground floor we moved the back of the house to the mezzanine level. In some locations, we also created indoor nurseries.
